Josephine County Library

Well, as all Southern Oregonians know by now... our library has been closed due to a lack of funding. The library has been closed since May of 2007.  All of Josephine County has suffered from this terrible situation. In September of 2007; Josephine Community Libraries INC was started, it is a community based non government, non profit organization committed to opening and operating the library. This is a great relief to all the book loving residents of Josephine County. The organization JCLI said in order to open the library and operate at a modest level they would need to raise 400,000 dollars, and more will be needed to get the services back that the local community is accustom to... like longer hours. This fall progress was made when Russell Long was named as Librarian for the main branch of the Josephine County Library. JCLI made a giant leap on November 17th taking provisional possession of the Grants Pass branch of the library, and a lease is soon to follow. The Library foundation has received several grants and has now reached the 400,000 dollars that was needed in order to open the doors in late December. The Library still needs volunteers, books, and new members to ensure that the library can remain open. Annual memberships start with Sustaining Members $1.00- $199.00 Bronze Members $200.00-$499.00 Silver Members $500.00-$999.00 Gold Members $1,000-$4,999 and Platinum members $5,000 and up. The library will be open to all residents of the community: you do not need to pay for a membership, but the money is greatly needed. With unemployment at a all time high and local companies forced to lay off employees, the hard working families of Josephine County will have our greatest resource back to help in their time of need.
