Oregon Emergency Jobs Program

Beginning July 1,2009 The Oregon Emergency Jobs Program will get some men and women back to work .The program will create 12,000 entry-level, temporary jobs to provide employment for Oregonians in projects that will help communities and families throughout the state.More than 81,000 unemployed Oregonians registered with the Employment Department are seeking entry-level jobs. All unemployed Oregonians will be eligible for these jobs.
The jobs will pay $8.40 to $10 an hour doing such things as helping at local food banks, clearing brush in parks and restoring wildlife habitat.
The Department of Community College and Workforce Development would administer the program by sending funds to nonprofit organizations, cities, counties and partners with temporary jobs that can be filled quickly.
The cost is $90 million in future payments to the state’s $1.5 billion unemployment insurance trust fund. The fund is supported by payroll taxes. It is not likely to have an effect on employer-paid UI tax rates in 2009 or 2010.
