House Bill 2335 would delay the tougher sentences for property crimes, and would release certain prisoners early. Both proposed bills come as Oregon faces a $78 million shortfall in the state public safety budget and this bill would ease the strain that public safety is facing . House Bill 2335 concerns Measure 57, which requires tougher sentences for property and drug crimes and was approved by voters last year ,it took effect January 1st of this year . The bill would suspend sentences under those rules until January 2012 at an estimated savings of $60 million. It would also make nonviolent criminals eligible for early release based on good behavior, saving an estimated $8 million. Over 110 people who are already sentenced under Measure 57 would continue to serve out their sentences . Link to house bill 2335 > Here
