Republican Nominee For Secretary Of Army

Obama will be nominating Republican Rep. John McHugh as secretary of the Army, McHugh has represented New York in Congress since 1993 , Rep. John McHugh voted with Democrats 26 percent of the time in the 110th Congress in 2007 and 2008. McHugh is the top Republican on the House Armed Services Committee the White House will announce McHugh’s appointment on Tuesday.
Obama has already confirmed Defense Secretary Robert Gates, and Rep. Ray LaHood of Illinois as transportation secretary from the Republican Party. However the good news end there, this will create a open position in the already Democrat controlled New York . Republicans currently hold only three of New York's 29 House seats, McHugh along with Long Island's Peter King and Chris Lee of the Buffalo area are the only Republicans.
McHugh's departure would necessitate a special election much like the one conducted this year for Democrat Scott Murphy .Democratic Governor David A. Paterson is responsible for proclaiming this special election, which must be held up to 40 days from the date of his proclamation.
