The area’s state representatives Ron Maurer ,Dennis Richardson ,Tim Freeman and Bruce Hanna addressed about 100 people at the Grants Pass High School Performing Arts Center at a town hall meeting on Monday, and asked local citizens to oppose tax and fee increases
People were asked to sign petitions to oppose corporate and personal income tax increases,
repeal a transportation package that includes increases in gas taxes and vehicle registration fees and oppose an insurance and hospital tax increase to fund state health reforms.
Maurer said, that tax increases are going to cost the state to lose jobs and send away companies and individuals who pay the most in taxes. Instead of improving the economy and employment, the Legislature made it worse.
The Public Employee Retirement System prompted questions, Richardson estimated that retirees are now getting only about 85% of their salary. Regarding health care, Maurer said it is important to provide care for the poor and to seniors “It’s no insurance anymore,It’s pre-paid health care. Richardson said it is less expensive to care for the person before the situation gets to the point of going to the emergency room.
Hanna referred those interested in the petitions to www.stopjobkillingtaxes.com
