Oregon Measure 80

Faith Hope And Politics
What is The Oregon Cannabis Tax Act? Measure 80 would allow personal marijuana, hemp cultivation/use without license; and commission to regulate commercial marijuana cultivation/sale.

If you visit any of the numerous pro-marijuana websites you will read and hear all the cooing and cawing about how wonderful pot is, and how fabulous it is, and that the only problem with marijuana is non-users.

Well, my thought on Measure 80 is NO, NO, NO. No support here at Faith Hope And Politics. The reason why is.... we don't allow people to purchase oxycontin, ritalin, prozac, adderall, better yet meth right out of someones trunk legally. Because drugs are drugs and medicine is medicine. This measure is absolutely ridiculous, it allows  any moron to buy or grow a drug that they even pro-potters promote as a medicine. Medicines should be quality controlled, and they should be monitored. Allowing personal use of growing marijuana can't be regulated. Therefore the quality would differ. This would is like buying bathtub moonshine, some would be safe, and some would not. Then there is the issue of children, Oregon has already brainwashed children into believing that marijuana is medicine for horrible diseases, and that it is the only medicine that works. Now Oregon children will have it grown in their homes. Mom and Dad will be stoned out 24/7, and they can't do anything about it. Children will suffer if this passes. The wording also says it bans public consumption except where signs permit, like the good old with smoking and non-smoking sections. What about in children's homes, there is no licence or card needed. The wording on this whole measure is so vague. It would only allow for big business to be regulated and quality controlled. All other home-growers will get a free pass, no licence, no pot-card needed. We all know that there will be morons who will break the rules, and this will law will make it harder for the great policemen and women to fight. Not to mention the poor Attorney General who will have to defend this measure at our state's cost. So, I urge you to vote No on measure 80. This measure is wrong, wrong, wrong.
Result of "Yes" Vote: "Yes" vote allows commercial marijuana (cannabis) cultivation/sale to adults through state-licensed stores; allows unlicensed adult personal cultivation/use; prohibits restrictions on hemp (defined).
Result of "No" Vote: "No" vote retains existing civil and criminal laws prohibiting cultivation, possession and delivery of marijuana; retains current statutes that permit regulated medical use of marijuana.
Summary: Currently, marijuana cultivation, possession and delivery are prohibited; regulated medical marijuana use permitted. Measure replaces state, local marijuana laws except medical marijuana and driving under the influence laws; distinguishes "hemp" from "marijuana"; prohibits regulation of hemp. Creates commission to license marijuana cultivation by qualified persons and to purchase entire crop. Commission sells marijuana at cost to pharmacies, medical research facilities and to qualified adults for profit through state-licensed stores. Ninety percent of net proceeds goes to state general fund, remainder to drug education, treatment, hemp promotion. Bans sales to, possession by minors. Bans public consumption except where signs permit, minors barred. Commission regulates use, sets prices, other duties; Attorney General to defend against federal challenges/prosecutions. Provides penalties. Effective January 1, 2013; other provisions.
