June Unemployment Dismal Again

In June, the number of long-term unemployed was essentially unchanged at 4.3 million
(those jobless for 27 weeks or more). These 4.3 million individuals
accounted for 36.7% of unemployed Americans. Over the past 12 months,
the number of long-term unemployed has declined by 1.0 million, but why?
Well, we know why...they gave up on looking for a job. There are currently 11.8
million unemployed Americans, and the unemployment rate, at 7.6 percent has remained
almost unchanged since February. However, these numbers do not show how bad
unemployment is for our youth, so I will. Youth unemployment was 16.1% in the
month of June. And it gets worse, the unemployment rate for 18-29 year old
African-Americans was a whopping 23.7% (NSA); the unemployment rate for 18-29 year
old Hispanics is currently 13.2%. Without addressing the youths the economy
looks as if it is getting better but... addressing them is another story.
The economy is getting worse for Blacks, Hispanics, and youth in general.
We will not see the economy truly improve until our youths and minority groups
get a fair chance at creating a life. With the double-standard that the media is
showing the general public, young Americans will never get a chance to be
Middle-Class. We need to as a whole show the real figures. Get our youth off of
food stamps and welfare. Get our future generation a job and stop acting like
they are not worth mentioning.
