Things are beginning to look up for our economy; despite some very bad info floating around the internet. I recently came across a Census survey from 2011. This survey has been passed around and has painted a dismal picture of America. The surveys findings it suggested that more Americans were on welfare programs, than working full-time. After doing some research I found this to be somewhat true in 2011, but completely false in 2013. Now don't go thinking that I am giving credit to Obama's lousy policies - because I am not. I am crediting the better numbers to American's, and their can-do spirit. Below are some of the findings. These figures compare the numbers in the 2011 survey with more current numbers.
- Subsidized housing: The 2011 Census survey had 13 million. For 2012 huduser.org shows 9 million.
- SNAP (food stamps): The 2011 Census survey had 49 million. For 2013 fns.usda.gov shows 47 million.
- Medicaid: The 2011Census survey had 82 million. For 2013, cms.gov shows 72 million.
- TANF (welfare): The 2011 Census Bureau survey had 5.8 million collecting TANF. For 2013, acf.hhs.gov shows 3.7 million.
- National School Lunch Program; 29 million children in more than 98,347 schools and residential child care institutions participate on a typical day.{19.6 million of these children receive free or reduced-price lunches.}
- Full Time Employment: The 2011 Census Bureau data cited 101,716,000 full-time workers. In 2013, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 142 million full-time workers.
My Great-Grandfather used to tell my Grandfather "In America, you can make of yourself anything you want to be, as long as you are willing to put forth the effort."
