Key things to note from the debate. Wehby is opposed to increasing the federal minimum wage saying that it could lead employers to reduce
the number of jobs around the country. Merkley countered that gradually raising the federal minimum wage to
$10.10 an hour would help to
lift hundreds of thousands of low-wage Oregon workers out of poverty. And Merkley said he is leaning toward supporting the Oregon ballot
measure to legalize marijuana, saying it would help reduce law enforcement
costs.
Wehby said she was concerned about the impact of marijuana on the
developing brains of youths and said she'd rather let the two states
that have legalized pot, Washington and Colorado, "be our pilot study
and see how things work out there."
