Oregon is home to the second-longest Republican
gubernatorial losing streak in the country. From 1974 through the
present, only one Republican has won the governorship: Victor Atiyeh won
in 1978 and again in 1982. In general a Republican hasn't won a statewide race in Oregon since incumbent Senator Gordon H. Smith was re-elected in 2002. After a close general election campaign in 2010, Kitzhaber won the election with 49% to Republican nominee Chris Dudley's 48%. If Kitzhaber is re-elected and serves out his term, he will become the second longest-serving governor in U.S. history. And Kitzhaber will win if a October 2014 poll by DHM Research is correct. The poll shows Kitzhaber with 50% and Richardson at a mere 29%.
With Josephine and Jackson Counties Unemployment at 9.6% and 8.6% retrospectively we need someone who can change the economy and kick things up a bit. And yes, Oregon's total unemployment is at 7.1% but nationally it is 5.9%. We need a new system we no longer can continue to struggle in Oregon, we need a new party to shake things up.
