Obama is expected to reverse the ban on stem cell research funding that President Bush enacted in 2001. President Bush imposed the restrictions in an effort to prevent tax dollars from encouraging the destruction of embryos, and because of scientific advances, including promising studies involving adult stem cells and the ability to transform them so that they appear to have many of the properties of embryonic cells. When there are opportunities to fund adult stem cell research, and it does not compromise the life of a individual, I cannot fathom why our tax dollars are needed to fund what I consider abortion. This signing of the executive order, voiding the restrictions that President Bush enacted, is expected to come as early as Monday, March 9th 2009.
